Activities are designed for learning personal skills that will enable medical students to care for themselves now and in the future, so they can positively impact the patients and communities they serve. Each week, students have the opportunity to learn and practice yoga, meditation, and take advantage of classes and resources in the segregated gyms and other sport facilities on the main campus.
Counseling and Psychological Services
Counseling Services
KU provides free counseling and coaching support for all medical students which can be booked through the EAB Navigate App. While gaining admission to medical school is exciting, students can still feel overwhelmed due to the academic, emotional, and personal challenges that are part of medical school and residency journeys. Counseling services are available through a dedicated team of professional counselors to contribute to students’ university experience at a personal and academic level and empower students to make better choices, leading to a happier and more dynamic campus life.
These services are rendered through a trustworthy, confidential and private atmosphere, where students can talk about any academic issues, personal difficulties, or social problems, such as:
- Difficulty balancing the demands of medical school
- Difficulty coping with emotions (e.g. depression, anxiety, anger and stress)
- Concerns about academic issues (e.g. motivation, concentration, test anxiety, poor time management, sub-optimal study skills)
- Health-related concerns (e.g. eating disorders, sleep problems, physical disability or chronic illness). Some students are supported further, as Special Needs students.
- Any other concern, problem, difficulty or enquiry
Any information shared within the counseling session will remain confidential and will not be shared with administrators, professors or anyone else without the permission of the student, unless the student poses harm to themselves or others.
