Dr. Noureddine Harid received his MEng degree and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Ecole Nationale Polytechnique-Alger(ʴ) and Cardiff University, UK, in 1986 and 1992 respectively. He is an Associate Professor of Power Systems and High-Voltage at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, since August 2013. Since 2001, he worked at Cardiff University as a Senior Researcher and Senior Lecturer of electrical power and high-voltage systems. Between 1992 and 2001, he took positions as an assistant professor and associate professor at the University of Jijel, Algeria and in PMU University, Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Harid has held several managerial duties including department chair, dean, and director of post-graduate studies and research. He has published 150 papers in recognized international journals and conferences. He has been principal investigator and co-investigator in 30 research projects valued at approximately $7 million funded by industries, research councils, governments, and universities. His research work received recognition through best paper awards, an outstanding Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) award, and an award from the European Electrical Insulation Manufacturers’ Association.
Dr. Harid is/was member of the IET, the IEEE, a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy UK, and served in the IEEE High Voltage Test Techniques (HVTT) sub-committee, the British Standard Committee on Lightning Protection (GEL/81), and liaison member of the Lightning Protection of Wind Turbines’ committee, PEL/88. His research interests include high-voltage techniques, insulation materials, condition monitoring and diagnostics, grounding systems and safety and power system transients and protection.
