Description

The Life Sciences Club, alongside a diverse range of student organizations, allowed students to explore their interests and connect with like-minded peers. The fair empowers students to take initiative in their extracurricular activities, fostering a vibrant campus life. From this event, we were able to recruit new members to our club as well as provided engaging activities such as a trivia competition, a biology-themed video game, and biology-related activities to test students on specific fields of biology like microbiology. The theme for this year’s Club Fair was focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our sustainable development goal was SDG #3: “Good Health and Well-being”. We focused on the impact of antibiotic resistance in bacteria which has a huge impact on the overall health and well-being.These antibiotic resistant bacteria are termed the “Super-bug pandemic”. Visitors were informed about the implications of antibiotics resistance as well as preventative measures regarding this topic. Our club activities aligned with our SDG as one of the trivia topics was related to Good Health and Well-Being as well as related fields of biology such as microbiology. When organizing our booth we were sustainable and avoided using paper, we focused on using computer-aided programs and screens to engage students.

Summarized Description

At the Club Fair, the Life Sciences Club joined other student-led organizations to connect students with their interests. We highlighted the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #3: Good Health and Well-being, focusing on the threat of antibiotic resistance (superbugs) and its impact on health.Visitors participated in a trivia competition, biology video game, and interactive activities testing their knowledge of microbiology, genetics, cell biology, and SDG #3. Our booth aligned with the SDG theme by incorporating trivia and activities focused on health and well-being, and we minimized our environmental impact by using digital tools instead of paper.

Number of attendees/audience

Over 150 people visited our booth, participated in our activities, and engaged in fruitful discussions regarding the super bug pandemic.

Notable achievements and outcomes

The club fair was a success. We informed over 100 biology-interested students about our club through interactive presentations and demonstrations. These students actively participated in discussions about SDG #3 and the superbug pandemic, sharing their own knowledge and asking insightful questions. Additionally, students engaged and participated in all the activities provided. The high level of engagement and positive feedback we received from both students and faculty solidified the value of our outreach efforts.
