Dr. Aasif Dabbawala did his Master’s (M.Sc) in Organic Chemistry from the Department of Chemistry, Bhavnagar University, India, where he earned a gold medal for securing the university's top rank. He completed his Ph.D. at the Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI), one of India's CSIR laboratories in Gujarat. His doctoral research focused on catalysis, particularly in synthesizing and characterizing phosphorus-based ligands and their transition metal complexes, which he used as catalysts for converting syngas (CO + H2, hydroformylation) and CO2 into value-added chemicals, as well as for hydrogenation reactions. Dr. Dabbawala has also worked as an R&D Chemist at Excel Crop Care Limited and served as a Senior Research Fellow at CSMCRI. After completing his Ph.D., he spent three years as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) in South Korea. Currently, he is a Research Scientist at Khalifa University, UAE, where his work focuses on developing zeolite-based composites, synthesizing hierarchical zeolites, rare-earth-modified CeO2 nanocomposites, bifunctional catalysts, and porous adsorbents. His research interests include heterogeneous catalysis, especially in synthesizing organometallic complexes, porous materials with embedded nanoparticles, and micro/mesoporous material-based catalysts for converting CO/CO2 into value-added chemicals. His key research areas include CO2 methanation (power to gas), dry reforming, catalytic cracking, hydrodeoxygenation of bio-oils.
