Biography

Dr. Asha Viswanath is a Post-doctoral research fellow in Department of Aerospace Engineering from 2021. She worked as Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology from 2018-2021 and as Research Associate at New York University Abu Dhabi in the Division of Engineering specializing in urban traffic analysis and uncertainty quantification. Before that, she was a postdoctoral researcher within the Laboratory for Intelligent Integrated Networks of Engineering Systems (LIINES) at the Masdar Institute of Science & Technology, Abu Dhabi working on hybrid dynamic models of electric vehicles. She received her Ph.D. from the Computational Design research group in the University of Southampton, UK where she specialized in dimension reduction techniques in aerospace design. Prior to her Ph.D, she was working in Cranes Software International in Bengaluru, India as developer of analysis techniques in the finite element software NISA. She completed her masters of research from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India. Before that she worked as a developer in a civil engineering consultancy firm, S & R Consultants, Kerala, India.

She has taught courses on Engineering Mechanics, Finite Element Analysis and Structural Dynamics during her teaching career. Her research projects at KU include the design of novel lattice structures in engineering applications with improved mechanical properties and buckling resistance using topology optimization methods and machine learning approaches.
