Biography

Dr. Ashraf Ali received his Ph. D in Material Science in 2019 from Anna University, Chennai, India. Proir to that he obtained his Master’s by Research (Nanotechnology) from King’s College London (2009), Master of Science (Physics) degree (2007) from Jamal Mohammed College, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli, India and his Bachelor of Science (Physics) (2005) from The New College; University of Madras, Chennai, India.

 

His expertise is in synthesis and characterization of polycrystalline, nanoparticles and thin film materials for applications in various fields. The fabrication instruments include AC/DC/RF Magnetron Sputtering system, Nanoparticle deposition system, CVD/PVD/LPE/Plasma CVD system and MOCVD system, Electrospinning system, Pelletron accelerator and Ion implantation systems, Electrochemical etching system. Characterization equipements include, PXRD, HRXRD, AFM, SEM, Raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscope, PL, I-V characterization system. His current area of research focuses on the fabricating and characterizing nanomaterials for low power and energy efficient nanodevices for energy storage applications.

 

Prior to joining KU, Dr. Ali was a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Physics and Emirates Centre for Energy & Environmental Research, United Arab Emirates University, Al Ain, Abu Dhabi. His research focus was on the development of metal-oxide framework and nanoparticles as standalone or with conducting polymers for gas sensing applications. Phase change materials for phase change memory device applications.
