Biography

Dr. Charitha Dias is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Khalifa University. Dr. Dias specializes in transportation engineering, traffic engineering, driver and pedestrian behavior modeling, and road safety. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Monash University, Australia (2015), a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan (2007), and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka (2004).

Dr. Dias previously worked at the Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Qatar University from April 2019 to December 2024. He also worked as a postdoctoral project researcher at the University of Tokyo from November 2015 to March 2019. In addition to his academic roles, he worked as a traffic engineer and modeler at two reputed consultancy firms in Tokyo for around three and a half years.

As an academic, Dr. Dias has authored and co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles. He has received several awards, including the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) - Monash Transportation Research Prize (2013) and the Monash University Postgraduate Publication Award (2014) during his PhD studies. He also serves as an editor for the PLOS ONE journal and has reviewed numerous articles for reputed transport-related journals.
