Dr. Frantz-Gerard Ossa Ossa is a multi-disciplinary geoscientist with a strong background on sedimentology, mineralogy, geobiology and low-temperature geochemistry. He received his Master degree in Biogeosciences, Environments and Petroleum Geology from the University of Dijon, France and was awarded Doctor of Science in Geobiology and Sedimentary Mineral Deposits from the University of Poitiers, France. After his final graduation, Dr. Ossa Ossa went to South Africa as a NRF-funded Postdoctoral Researcher, at the University of Johannesburg, to improve his skills on field and economic geology, and then to Germany as a DFG-funded Postdoctoral Research Staff, at the University of Tuebingen, to gain more experience on geochemical analytical tools. Before joining Khalifa University as an Assistant Professor, at the Department of Earth Science, he was recently a NERC-UKRI-funded Research Associate at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Cardiff University, UK and Guest Investigator at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, USA.
Although Dr. Ossa Ossa is from a petroleum geology background, as he has spent 2 years in the Oil and Gas industry as Exploration Geologist, his research interests are diverse and may involve Paleoclimate, Paleoceanography, Paleoecology, Biogeochemical Cycles, Astrobiology, mobilization and accumulation of critical metals and Petroleum Geology. Specifically, he combines field investigation and modern geochemical tools to shed new light on the coevolution of life and environments as well as natural resources generated from this interplay throughout the Earth’s history. Moreover, lessons learnt from the early Earth are further used as important analogues to improve our search for extraterrestrial life forms.
Dr. Ossa Ossa has numerous research articles published in top and high impact factor international journals and delivered several presentations in national and international conferences. He is also serving as a reviewer for numerous international journals, Government and International funding agencies.
