Biography

Khaled Salah is a full professor at the Department of Computer and Information Engineering, Khalifa University, UAE. He is the deputy director of the center for Supply Chain & Operations Management (DSOM). Khaled received the B.S. degree in Computer Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from Iowa State University, USA, in 1990, the M.S. degree in Computer Systems Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, USA, in 1994, and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the same institution in 2000. He joined Khalifa University in August 2010, and is teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of blockchain, cloud computing, cybersecurity, computer networks, operating systems, and performance modeling and analysis. 

He authored or co-authored over 400 publications and was granted three U.S. patents. Additionally, he secured numerous research grants. Khaled delivered 55 international keynote speeches, invited talks, tutorials, and seminars on emerging topics such as blockchain, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.

Khaled was ranked #1 among the top authors worldwide for the years (2020 to 2023) with the highest publications in the emerging area of “Bitcoin; Ethereum; and IoT”, according to SciVal. He was ranked #3 among the top authors worldwide for the years (2019 to 2024) with the highest publications in the area of “Supply Chain; Sustainable Development; Blockchain”, according to SciVal. He was ranked #1 among Highly Ranked Scholars within KU in ScholarGPS listing for the last five years (2024 and before) considering productivity, quality and impact.  He was ranked #1 within KU in the 2% Stanford-Elsevier List of Single year scientists with greatest citation impact for the year 2020 and 2022. He was included in the 2020-2024 lists of Stanford University World Ranking of Top 2% researchers, and in the 2020-2024 career list of Stanford University World Ranking of Top 2% researchers. He was ranked #2 among all KU faculty in terms of citations, and ranked #6 in publications, for the period 2019 to >2025, according to SciVal.

Khaled was the recipient of many awards including KU Research Publications Award 2022, Khalifa University Research Excellence Award of 2021, Khalifa University Citation Excellence Award of 2019, and Khalifa University Outstanding Research Award of 2015, KFUPM University Excellence in Research Award of 2009, and KFUPM Best Research Project Award of 2010, and also the recipient of the departmental awards for Distinguished Research and Teaching in prior years. Khaled has won several Best Paper Awards, most recently securing 1st Place in the IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine's Best Paper Award (2023). He also received the 2020 Premium Award for Best Paper in IET Networks.

Khaled served as the Track Chair of IEEE Globecom 2018 on Cloud Computing. Khaled is also an associate editor of IEEE Blockchain Technical Briefs and the International Journal Blockchain in Healthcare. He is a member of IEEE Blockchain Education Committee, and IEEE decentralized metaverse initiative.
