Suma Rao is a seasoned educator with a strong background in engineering. With over two decades of experience in academia and industry, she has honed her skills in various areas, including electrical engineering, research, and lab instruction.
Suma holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics from the National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NITK), India, and a Master of Science in Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University-Belgaum, India. Her master's thesis focused on Grid Islanding & Load Shedding Scheme Implementation.
Before joining Khalifa University in 2016, Suma worked as an R&D Engineer at Motherson Sumi Systems, specializing in the design and quality assurance of wiring harnesses for automotive OEMs. She has also served as a faculty member at The Global Academy of Technology and The Oxford College of Engineering in Bangalore.
At Khalifa University, Suma teaches and coordinates lab courses in Microprocessor Systems, Electric Circuits, Electronic Devices and Digital Circuits, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Computer System Organization, and Electric Machines.
Her contributions to education have been recognized with the Khalifa University Teacher’s Award for excellence in lab teaching in 2022. Additionally, she is a certified High-Impact Mission 10X Teacher from Wipro-Dale Carnegie University.
