OVERVIEW
The Minor in Environment and SustainabilityÌýoffers students a comprehensive, interdisciplinary understanding of the complex relationship between biological systems and the environment, preparing them to address some of the most pressing global challenges. Grounded in the biological sciences and enriched by perspectives from business and environmental studies, the program emphasize s sustainability, conservation, and the ethical dimensions of environmental decision-making. Core courses provide a solid foundation in ecological principles, environmental science, and sustainable economic development, while elective options allow students to tailor their learning to match their interests and career goals. This integrated approach equips students with critical thinking skills and the ability to design practical, innovative solutions to environmental problems. Graduates of the program will be well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to careers in environmental conservation, sustainability policy, and related fields.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The goals of the program are to:
- Provide students with an interdisciplinary foundation to understand the complex interconnections between human activities and ecosystems.
- Cultivate an ethical mindset and a deep commitment to sustainability, encouraging students to consider environmental, social, and economic impacts in their professional and personal decision-making processes.
- Develop future leaders and advocates who are well-prepared to influence and implement policies and practices that promote environmental sustainability and conservation at local, national, and global levels.
PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of the Minor in Environment and Sustainability, graduates will be able to:
- Analyse the principles and concepts of environmental science, sustainable development, and conservation practices.
- Apply interdisciplinary approaches in the development of practical and innovative solutions to environment and sustainability problems.
- Communicate complex environmental issues and solutions to diverse audiences.
Structure and Requirements
MINOR COURSE STRUCTURE (16 Credits):
To receive a minor in Environment and Sustainability, students must successfully complete a minimum of five (5) courses distributed as follows: [Only one (1) of these 5 courses can also be counted towards the student’s major, if applicable.]
