Khalifa University鈥檚 research relates to key focus sectors of relevance to the UAE鈥檚 strategic economic growth and the technology platforms that serve as foundations for these sectors.
The University鈥檚 research priorities are addressed in two categories 鈥� 鈥渧erticals鈥� and 鈥渉orizontals鈥� 鈥� which jointly cover specific industry and sector needs, technical platforms and expertise.
KU鈥檚 focus sectors are Clean and Renewable Energy, Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production, Water and Environment, Health, Aerospace, and Supply Chain and Logistics. Research in these sectors is enhanced by our research platforms of Robotics, AI and Data Science, Information and Communication Technologies, and Advanced Materials and Manufacturing.
KU also engages in arts and sciences research that provides additional depth and breadth to the university鈥檚 research portfolio. Specific topical areas covered are mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, humanities and social sciences.
The Office of Technology Management and Innovation is responsible for protection, management and commercialization of Khalifa University research discoveries. It works closely with faculty and researchers in the University to translate their inventions into viable business opportunities and commercial products through formation of startups and/or technology licensing to industry partners. The office supports the research-driven innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems in the University to actively contribute to UAE economic development and diversification.
The Office of Research Services (ORS) is responsible for the pre- and post-award administration of internally- and externally-funded research programs at Khalifa University. It provides the underlying policies, procedures and administrative infrastructure to ensure research enterprises are successful and sustainable. The ORS also coordinates with the Research Ethics Committees and the relevant IT systems that support the research functions.
In the current research environment, computing and computing based simulations have been firmly established as a basis for modern scientific enquiry alongside聽 experiment and theory. High performance computing is not routinely across a wide array of disciplines. In order for researchers and research institutions to be competitive on a world stage, access to appropriate computing resources, and the expertise to leverage these resources is a must. Our vison is 聽to enable and support world class research at Khalifa University of Science and Technology, by providing leading edge computing services, expertise, consultancy and training.
