Dr. Mohamed Abou-Khousa has had core formal education in electrical engineering focusing on applied electromagnetics and statistical signal processing. His areas of expertise include RF, microwave, and millimeter wave instrumentation, radar systems, antennas, material characterization, nondestructive testing, and subsurface imaging.
Before joining Khalifa University, Dr. Abou-Khousa was a Research Scientist at Robarts Research Institute, Canada. He has more than 15 years of research and development experience over which he devised principles of waves scattering, absorption, reflection and interaction with material structures reconciled with circuit theory to see the “unseen. Based on these principles, he has developed several innovative sensing devices and imaging systems for aerospace, biomedical, and oil & gas applications. He has been actively involved in various multidisciplinary research and development projects sponsored by industry and government agencies.
Dr. Abou-Khousa has co-authored numerous technical publications in his areas of expertise, and has to his credit many patents. He is an IEEE Senior member and Associate Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement journal, for which he was recognized as Outstanding Associate Editor in the years 2018-2020. He is currently serving as the Chair of the IEEE UAE section Instrumentation and Measurement, Antennas and Propagation, and Microwave Theory and Techniques Joint Chapter. He is the recipient of many national and international awards including the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society 2017 Outstanding Young Engineer Award, and IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society 2013 H. A. Wheeler Prize Paper Award.
