Biography

Associate Professor, Department of Civil Infrastructure and Environmental Engineering

Dr. Tae Yeon Kim joined the Civil Infrastructure and Environmental Engineering Department as a faculty member in the fall of 2014. Prior to coming to Khalifa University, he was an acting instructor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle from 2013 to 2014. He was a postdoctoral fellow and a research associate in Mechanical Engineering at McGill University in Canada from 2009 to 2013. Dr. Kim has industrial experience in product development as a senior engineer at Samsung Electronics from 2007 to 2009. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Duke University in 2007.

Dr. Kim’s research concerns computational mechanics and structural health monitoring of various structures. In particular, he is interested in developing sensing systems for nondestructive evaluation of concrete and steel structures and fiber-reinforce composites, efficient and accurate computational methods for contact mechanics, fracture mechanics, fluid mechanics, materials science, and oceanography, and turbulence closure models based on regularizations.
