Biography

Lecturer, Department of English

Studied at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, with University of Surrey, UK, and with Institute of Education, University of London; thereafter teaching in a wide range of English Communication, Applied Media Studies and Academic Support roles. Joined Masdar Institute in 2010, entrusted with the task of designing and delivering an Academic Writing, Research Methodology and Critical Thinking program to bridge Emirati BSc. Engineering graduates to full MSc research studies, and support to both Emirati and International students in their MSc and PhD research and publications. January 2012 established a Teaching at a University Level course, mandatory for the UAE Commission of Academic Accreditation of an IDDP Inter Disciplinary Doctoral Program PhD at Masdar Institute, to prepare doctoral candidates for junior professorships and other positions of post-doctoral leadership. Currently teaching undergraduate communications courses at Khalifa University.

  • Reflective approaches to undergraduate communications courses: value/expectancy motivation; learners’/observers’ perspective influencing perception and constructing knowledge; teaching approaches to learning for science: as simultaneously reliable and contingent; thinking about thinking; principles of effective argument development and interpretation; modes of proof in diverse discourse communities: contexts of authentic and situated challenges, in diverse formats - including structured web based forum discussion; and storytelling with data.
  • Supporting graduate students’ transitioning to teaching and leadership responsibilities; examples: 1) co-designed and delivered CAA accredited Teaching at a University Level doctoral university level 600 core course [Masdar Institute 2013-2018]; 2) co-designed and delivered graduate teaching assistant workshops series [Khalifa University 2019] 3) design and delivery of core workshops for Young Future Energy Leaders Program YFEL [since 2011].
